Dylan Bray
Technical Analyst
Dylan Bray’s career-story starts with ESTI, and is ESTI.
He got his start at the University of Saskatchewan through his love of wrestling, and happened to take a class in computer science. Dylan found he really enjoyed it, and had an aptitude for it, so he pursued his Computer Science degree, and in the summer of 2014, found himself a summer job at ESTI.
That summer position went very well, and ESTI offered him a part time job while he went to school to complete his degree. In 2016, Dylan convocated and launched into his full-time career at ESTI.
Dylan is now a Technical Analyst, and has gained a wide breadth of experience. He is currently working on a project for a Saskatchewan based client that is coming to a successful close: the migration of 70+ COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) modules, a language invented in the late 1950’s, into Oracle’s procedural language, PL/SQL. It has involved significant work over the past 2 years, and copious testing.
Dylan is also working on an employer remittance system using Amazon Web Services and React, allowing an employer to complete pension remittances on behalf of their employees all on-line, whereas currently, it is handled through a variety of different manual processes which can be cumbersome and labor intensive.
COVID-19 has affected the way Dylan approaches his work, and he is looking forward to the day when being on-site at a client’s place of business becomes the norm again: where work can progress at a more rapid pace when it comes to testing and problem solving – he hopes to see that practice return soon.
If there was a favourite type of project to work on for Dylan, it would be one where he can build up a system, from the initiation stage, right to the end in terms of production, and going ‘live’.
Outside of work, Dylan keeps busy with a variety of hobbies and activities, including home-brewing, camping with his family, and coaching amateur wrestling. He is really looking forward to the day when the opportunity to participate in sporting activities is a reality.
